My work is an exploration of resilience, transformation, and the quiet strength that lives within us. Through layered mixed media, expressive mark-making, and symbolic elements—like the small black robin that weaves its way through my pieces—I tell stories of survival, growth, and becoming. Each artwork holds a balance of raw spontaneity and intention, embracing imperfection while celebrating colour, emotion, and depth. At its heart, my practice is about turning life’s challenges into something meaningful, creating pieces that feel both deeply personal and universally connected.

My practice is grounded in mixed media, chosen for its ability to hold layers of story, texture, and emotion all at once. My practice is grounded in mixed media, chosen for its ability to hold layers of story, texture, and emotion all at once. I’m drawn to materials that allow freedom and immediacy—watercolour, acrylic, ink, collage—each one offering a different voice within the work. Together they create surfaces that feel lived-in and expressive, where marks can be built, obscured, and rediscovered, much like memory itself. I refer often to our native Black Robin. As a survivor of near extinction, she is a powerful metaphor for hope, renewal and the possibility for transformation. She appears small and fragile, but her power to restore her species is a testament to her strength that we can all resonate with. Her story is not one I can ignore, and incorporate her strength and spirit in all my work.

I have created my own signature character that regularly appears in my work, “Kiko”, which means “Hope” in Japanese.
Kiko's peaceful presence offers solace and refuge, reminding us that hope can always be found, even in the most challenging of times. She personifies the strength and uniqueness of the feminine form, promoting a powerful message about women's roles and rights.
